If these motors have 7/16 rods, steel cranks and 4 bolt mains, and Keith black flat top hypereutectic 10.5 to 1 large oval ports, its already better then my .30 over hypereutectic piston, 2 bolt main, 3/8 rod, 9.5 to 1, mid 80s bowl blended peanut port 454! But neither will be a race motor just hoping for a low 12 second street strip cruiser! 😁

The Vortec 7400 L21 was a commercial version of the Chevrolet Big-Block engine used in the medium duty truck platform. Its design shared much with the L29 454, but with the addition of forged pistons and crankshaft, and coil near plug ignition. It had slightly reduced power compared to the L29 454 and used a different PCM.
Jul 02, 2014 · I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer LT with a 4.3 liter Vortec V-6 and it starts and drives , but it doesn’t have any power when I go to accelerate. The codes that come up are PO102 and PO341. I just installed a brand new distributor, cap, rotor and plugs.
I assume when you say a late 90's 7400 454 Chevy engine you are talking about the VORTEC MPFI engine used from about 1996 to 1999. These engines were rated about 275-290 HP and about 390-410lb/ft. of torque. The 8.1L L18 engine was used from 2000 thru 2008 GM in the HD trucks. These were 496 cu. inch engines and were developed for better torque.
